Byron Carlock is a distinguished real estate executive with 38 years of industry experience, specializing in the full real estate life cycle. His expertise spans strategic planning, property transactions, capital formation, and business execution. He has worked extensively with corporate owners and users, developers, investors, hospitality organizations, and REITs, providing critical insights and leadership to drive success.

Beyond real estate strategy, Byron is well-versed in corporate governance, board leadership, mergers and acquisitions, and conflict resolution. His ability to navigate complex business challenges has made him a sought-after advisor to leading companies and organizations in the real estate sector.

Business Highlights:

  • Served as PwC’s U.S. Real Estate Practice Leader until his retirement in July 2023, overseeing national strategy and client advisory services for one of the world’s leading professional services firms. During his tenure, he played a key role in guiding corporate leaders through market shifts, investment strategies, and emerging trends in real estate.
  • Before PwC, Byron spent seven years as CEO and President of CNL Lifestyle Properties, Inc., where he led the REIT’s strategic direction and growth. Over his 11-year tenure at CNL, he also served as President of two other REITs.
  • Earlier in his career, Byron spent three years as Executive Vice President and Chief Investment Officer of Post Properties (NYSE: PPS) overseeing investment strategies for one of the nation’s most prominent real estate firms. Additionally, he spent nine years as Managing Director at Trammell Crow and Crow Holdings-related entities.

Byron is an active board member, currently serving on the boards of Accordant Funds, where he chairs the audit committee, as well as Demetree Global and Civicap, a Houston-based attainable housing developer. He is also the Managing Member of Preservation Properties, LLC, leading efforts in rural restoration and redevelopment projects in the Arkansas Delta.

Byron holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a BBA from Harding University. His insights and expertise have been widely recognized in the media, with extensive features in The Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, CNBC, Fox Business News, and The New York Times. He also wrote a monthly column for National Real Estate Investor and served as the PwC publisher and spokesperson for Emerging Trends in Real Estate for 12 years.

Byron has been recognized for his leadership and influence, including being named one of Dallas’ 500 Most Influential Business Leaders by D Magazine.

He resides in Dallas, Texas to spend time with his three wonderful grandchildren and spends summers in Edgartown, Massachusetts.
